Cat Adoption

Finding the Right Home

Thank you for choosing to adopt a cat from the Revelstoke Humane Society with the understanding that all cats adopted are to be strictly INDOOR ONLY cats.

Like every home, every animal is unique so our goal is to find the best match possible. Your application is therefore used as a starting point to match your lifestyle, needs, and experience with the animals in our care. As finding the right match is always our mutual priority, in no way does a rejection mean we consider you an unsuitable pet owner. We simply wish to place each animal in the best situation for success.

Before You Apply

Commitment

Many animals end up at the Revelstoke Humane Society because former pet owners did not think through the responsibilities of owning a pet. From the outset, it's important to understand appreciate that some pets can live 10 to 20 years and cost hundreds of dollars annually in food, toys, accessories, and veterinary care.

Temperament

As most animals come to us without any background history, we cannot guarantee temperament. While all information discovered during the vet check and their stay at the shelter is shared, this does not guarantee temperament which most typically an effect of environment and circumstance.

Health

RDHS cannot guarantee the health of our animals. We disclose all observations revealed during the veterinary health check. All cats are dewormed and vaccinated. Any animals that we suspect are sick stay with us for treatment until we believe they are better. Please understand that some illnesses can have an incubation period upwards of 10 days, which means that a pet can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. In these rare instances, help with medical costs are assessed on a case-by-case basis. We always recommend any animals you already have at home remain up to date on their vaccinations.

Spaying & Neutering

All animals the RDHS adopts out must be spayed or neutered. Whenever possible we have the surgery done before the pet is rehomed. However, if this must be done at a later date, the new owner must ensure the pet makes it to the sterilization appointment (paid by RDHS). Failure to make, reschedule, or honour an appointment will result in RDHS reclaiming the pet.
