About RDHS

Overview

The Revelstoke District Humane Society (RDHS) is a registered, non-profit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of animals through programs and services in sheltering, education and protection in the city of Revelstoke. Operating costs are supported by adoption fees, grants, donations, and various community fundraising activities and events.

RDHS exists in partnership with the Animal Control bylaw division of the City of Revelstoke which owns the shelter on Tenth Street. Animal Control is responsible for impounding dogs and reuniting them with their owner. Dogs that cannot be reunited are released into the RDHS adoption program. RDHS then, is responsible for sheltering/reuniting lost cats and overseeing the adoption program for abandoned cats and dogs in our care.

All animals entering the RDHS adoption program are brought to the Revelstoke Veterinary Clinic for a health check and spayed/neutered, dewormed, defleaed, vaccinated, and microchipped where necessary. Our priority is to find homes that are best suited to the temperament of the animal. When funding and needs align, RDHS helps subsidize the spaying and neutering of pets in the Revelstoke community (click here to learn more).
