RDHS Pet Adoption Program

All animals entering the RDHS adoption program are vet checked, spayed/neutered, dewormed, defleaed, vaccinated, and microchipped where necessary.

For the best possible outcome, RDHS prioritizes matching the personality of the animal to each living situation. While many animals in need of new homes are well-adjusted, others are in need of more tender loving and special care. While the majority of applications succeed, in no way does a rejection imply you an unsuitable pet owner.

As some animals and/or people adopting may require additional support, any requests or suggestions for special accommodation that promote success are always considered. You’re not buying a pet, you’re making a long-term investment in a friend, so our mutual goal is to create the best situation for the animal's welfare.

Cats vs Dogs

All cats adopted from the Humane Society are to be strictly INDOOR ONLY cats. If you see a potential new friend here or on our Facebook Page, call 250-837-8578 and make an appointment to meet the animal in person at the shelter. Adoption applications may be submitted before or after this first appointment. However, if you plan on bringing your adopted cat home after this first visit, your application must be approved in advance (7 days max) and adoption fee paid before the animal leaves the shelter.

With dogs, once an application is approved, we'll ask you to come to the shelter or foster home and walk your potential new pet a few times to begin bonding and to experience the animal's personality first-hand before making your final decision.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees are paid when the animal is ready to be taken home. Adoption fees include a lifetime microchip registered through BC Pet Registry.

• Kittens (8 months & under) $160
• Cats (over 8 months) $120
• Puppies (12 months & under) $240
• Adult dogs (over 12 months) $210
• Senior animals (over 8 years) No fee (donation appreciated)
• Animal pairs that RDHS has deemed should remain together (cost to be determined)

Adoption fees will be refunded upon the pet's return if the animal is found to be unsuited to the new home within a 6 week period.

ADOPT MAGIC & MARLEY - This bonded mother and son pair would like to be adopted together. Magic is playful, curious, and loving. While Marley has come a long way in developing trust with humans, he is still timid, and prefers if you move slowly and predictably. He will need space, but still wants some attention, on his terms.

This is curious & cute Dumpling. She came to the shelter with no known history or background. She is around 2 years old, spayed, fully vaccinated and up to date with being wormed etc. She is super curious and playful, and LOVES to play ball with you.
