Dog Adoption

Our Goal

Thank you for choosing to adopt a pet from the Revelstoke Humane Society. Every animal and every home is unique and it is our goal to match each animal with the best home possible. We use this application as a starting point to match your lifestyle, needs, and experience with the animals in our care. As we prioritize finding the right match, in no way does a rejection mean we consider you an unsuitable pet owner. We simply aim to put the animal in the best situation for success.

Before You Apply

Many animals end up at the Revelstoke Humane Society because former pet owners did not think through the responsibilities of owning a pet. Please understand that an animal could live 10 to 20 years and cost hundreds of dollars every year.

As most animals come to us without any background history, we cannot guarantee temperament. While we disclose all information discovered during their stay at the shelter, this does not guarantee temperament which most often an effect of environment and circumstance.

We cannot guarantee the health of our animals. We disclose observations that are revealed during a health check with a vet. All cats are dewormed and vaccinated. Any animals that we suspect are sick, stay with us for treatment until we believe they are better. Please understand that some illnesses can have an incubation period of upward of 10 days, which means that a pet can leave in good health but get sick a few days post adoption. We always recommend any animals you have at home remain up to date on their vaccinations.

All animals the RDHS adopts out must be spayed or neutered. When possible we have the surgery done before the pets are rehomed. If it must be done at a later date the new owner must ensure the pet makes it to the sterilization appointment (paid by us). Failure to make or reschedule an appointment will result in the reclaiming of the pet.
